Product Description GENERAL FEATURES: The Deluxe Game of Go from John N. Hansen is an Oriental Strategy. It is played on a solid wood hinged playing board with authentic black and white mover stones. "Go" originated in China more than 4000 years ago and the Japanese perfected it, making it a great strategy skill game. The object of the game is to gain control of territories and capture enemy stones. "Go" is easy to learn but gives all levels of players many challenging hours of fun. The game comes with an 11 inch by 11 3/4 inch solid wood board, stones and instructions. For two players age six and up. Small stones are hazardous for children under age three.
Editorial Review Go is probably one of the world's most intimidating games, one which conjures up images of players gleefully setting out for blood as they devise militaristic board moves. This complex exercise in strategy originated some 4,000 years ago in the East and has no direct Western counterpart. The game's playing surface is divided into 361 intersections. Players place stones on the corners of the squares, and the object is to surround the stones of their opponents. This edition's wooden game board is heavy, durable, and has an elegant blond veneer. The plastic stones are less impressive. The set comes with a first-rate rule book: filled with diagrams, examples, and a useful recap section midway through the instructions, it'll make any novice good to Go. --Tony Mason

Great beginner board September 13, 2008 Jacob Martinez (San Antonio, TX USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is probably the standard when it comes to affordable beginner Go boards. I personally wouldn't go with anything plastic. This board does come with a (particle board) wooden board, which is nice enough. The only complaint I have is that the pieces are just a little too small and light. Overall it is a good product for beginning Go players.
Good for beginners August 31, 2008 L. Zhang 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Although the stones are a little smaller than expected, it is a very good set for beginners to enjoy the go game.
Excellent beginner's set May 2, 2008 Mark Zieg (Kissimmee, Florida USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We found this a wonderful beginner's set to the game. The board is of decent quality, so it's fairly easy to upgrade to a "classier" set later by picking up a pair of bowls. Finally, enlist your kids' interest by combining this with a copy of the excellent Hikaru no Go manga or anime :-)
Go Game with Wood Board November 3, 2007 Diane L. Martin (Kent, WA) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Hard to rate the actual product. My son is a marine stationed in Iraq and requested the game. He was thrilled when he received it. The price was very good, the service and delivery was perfect. I tried to ship it direct but it would not allow an APO address, so had to ship it to my home and then pay postage to ship it out again.
Good to start with... June 4, 2007 Vangald 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This a nice board set to start with and if you where to start a Go club it is probably one of the cheaper sets outside the travel sets for learning to play. My one major problem with this set is in general it is still kinda small for my tastes. Especially the stones. I find them hard to place on a crowded board even when using proper placing technique. I have fairly large hands which doesn't help the matter. Also the beads are plastic, but when it comes to Go boards, you sort of expect it at this price range. Other than that it is a nice set to start with if you are looking a cheaper more practical playing equipment.
